A 52-YEAR-old Chaguanas man recently released from prison was shot and killed while he slept at his home yesterday.
Russell Hernandez, of Almond Drive, Cashew Gardens, was killed as he lay next to his girlfriend.
A 30-year-old female security guard, of Picton Street, Laventille, has been detained by police for questioning.
Police are also searching for a male suspect in the case. They believe a domestic dispute was the motive for the killing.
At around 5 a.m., the female suspect came to the Chaguanas Police Station wearing only a T-shirt.
She reported to police that an hour earlier, she was awakened by two loud explosions. She told police officers a lone gunman broke into the house and shot Hernandez in the head.
An investigator said police returned to the house but found no signs of forced entry. No weapon was recovered at the scene.
Hernandez was found dead in the bed with a wound to the forehead and cheek. Police said Hernandez was released from prison earlier this year after serving a six-month sentence for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
A neighbour of Hernandez said he came to live in the area some two years ago and had previously lived at Laventille.
