Cops hunt driver in fatal hit-and-run

POLICE are searching for the driver of a navy blue Nissan Frontier that struck a couple at Chaguanas on Saturday, which resulted in the death of vendor Jemma Farrell.

Farrell, of Bhagaloo Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas, was pronounced dead at the scene at Main Road, Chaguanas.

The mystery vehicle also struck her companion, Andy Jagessar, of Annabelle Street, Couva.

He survived.

Police were told by a witness that at around 2.20 a.m, the pick-up van was seen speeding along the road before the driver collided with the couple.

The witness told police that the bodies of Farrell and Jagessar flew several feet into the air, then landed on the pavement.

Farrell was pronounced dead at the scene by a District Medical Officer.

Jagessar was taken by ambulance to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was treated for serious injuries. Farrell's death is the fifth known road fatality this year.

Acting Sergeant Bernadette Clarke is investigating.
