Cops seek family of chop victim
Body found in Laventille
POLICE are seeking the assistance of the public in locating the relatives of a man who was found chopped to death in Laventille early yesterday morning.
Police said around 4.45 a.m., they received information that the body of a man had been found lying on the side of Clifton Hill Circular in Laventille.
A team of officers led by Supt Ajith Persad, along with Cpl De Gale of the Besson Street CID and Port of Spain Divisional Task Force, went into the area and found the body.
After the body had been examined by a district medical officer, it was moved to the Port of Spain Hospital mortuary.
Police said the body was a male of African descent and slim build who appeared to be in his 30s. The "John Doe" was found wearing a pair of long black pants, a black and white jersey and a white pair of shoes.
There were chop wounds all over his body and his right hand was severed, according to detectives.
Persons with information regarding the identity of the dead man are asked to call the Besson Street Police Station.
The murder toll stood at 37 up to last night. —GG
