Cops seize ganja, gun

Two held in house...

TWO men were arrested, one sub-machine gun was seized, along with 1.5 kilos of marijuana, following a raid by officers of the Port of Spain Division Operations Unit in the Morvant area.

Police said between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. yesterday, they went to the Celestine Drive area in Morvant where they searched two houses, as well as the area around the houses.

The team of officers was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Stephen Ramsubhag and was led by Cpls Seepersad, Gupta and Wayne Praimdass.

Officers said in one of the houses, they arrested two men, one from St Vincent and the other a local. Those two men are scheduled to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate today, charged with the possession of the marijuana.

The gun, which is a Mac-11, was also found with a silencer, and it uses .380 calibre ammunition.

Back in the 90s, it was the gun of choice for the majority of United States gangsters who used the weapon to attack multiple targets in a spraying motion.

Investigations are continuing.
