Councillor robbed of $50,000 worth of items

A United National Congress (UNC) local government councillor was robbed of some $50,000 in jewelery, household items and valuables on Tuesday. 

Vandana Mohit, arrived at her Jerningham Junction Road home to find it ransacked, police said.

According to police, Mohit had left her home around 8 a.m. 

She was later contacted by a neighbour who told her that an intruder was seen on her premises. 

Mohit contacted the police and officers of the Cunupia Police Station responded. 

Police have lifted fingerprints from the scene. 

A 24-year-old man of Cunupia, whom police said was a drug addict, was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with the incident.
