A 58-year-old woman and her 29-year-old son are in police custody after being held with 18 kilogrammes of marijuana and a .38 pistol.

Police reported that at about 1:45 p.m. on Monday, a party of officers from the Northern Division Task Force, led by Inspector Mark Maharaj, with assistance from Sgt Harrilal, Cpl Parmhill, Cpl Nicholson, PC Phillips, and others, made their way to Henry Street, Arouca.

Once there the officers, acting on information received, executed a search warrant at an apartment building. During their search the officers found several blocks of the high grade marijuana wrapped in clear plastic in several rooms throughout the house.

A .38 pistol with a full magazine and five rounds of live ammunition were also found at the home. As a result of the discoveries, the woman and her son, who were both at home when the warrant was executed, were arrested.

They are both expected to be charged with possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition.
