A SANTA Flora couple were shot while feeding their dogs outside their home on Saturday.
Derrick Capriette Mitchell and Amanda Mohammed, both 33, of Alexander Village, were shot in their chests.
Police said around 8.30 p.m., they were outside their home feeding their dogs when they heard a loud explosion coming from the bushes.
Mitchell was struck by several pellets just below his neck, while Mohammed was struck by one pellet
Mohammed was treated and discharged at Siparia Health Centre, while Mitchell was warded at San Fernando General Hospital.
The couple have two children, aged ten and eight years old, who were not at home at the time of the shooting.
Police officers of the South-Western Task Force, led by Sgt Anderson Parriman, responded to the report and searched the area, but no one was found.
Police are yet to ascertain a motive for the shooting.
In other crime news, a Couva man was robbed at Penal on Sunday.
Basdeo Williams, 52, of McBean, told police he was liming at a nightclub and parked his Toyota Hi-lux, valued $200,000, in a car park nearby.
He said around 1.40 a.m. he was in the vehicle sleeping when he was awakened by two men, who announced a hold-up.
Williams said the thieves robbed him of $150, then forced him into the back of the vehicle.
He said the suspects covered his face with a mask, then tied him with rope.
The thieves drove to Best Trace, off Scott's Road, where they threw Williams out of the vehicle.
The victim said he freed himself and alerted nearby residents, who contacted police.
Penal police officers searched the area and recovered the van in an agricultural road near Scott's Road.
PC Singh of Penal Police Station is continuing investigations.
