Crichlow seeks legal advice over dismissal

Former UDeCOTT project director Kenneth Crichlow said last night that he is seeking legal advice on his firing from the state enterprise.

Crichlow was hired in October last year by former Planning Minister Mary King who was the line Minister for UDeCOTT.

He was fired by UDeCOTT chairman Jearlean John in April this year. John has said due process was not followed in his employment and the post did not exist at UdeCOTT.

Crichlow said he has a legal contract and to date he does not know why he was terminated.

He said he did not know King beforehand but only met her in August last year when he visited the former minister as part of a consultancy team from Genivar.

He said he made it known that he was on the job market.

Crichlow said he was interviewed by King and former permanent secretary at the Ministry, Juliana Boodram.

"Mary King and the PS noted that I was well qualified to work with them at UDeCOTT and they at the time had a serious problem, several major projects ongoing on the time that needed to be treated with, there was no board in place and although this was what they told me, Jearlean John was there as chairman, she couldn't function without a board. So there was a need," he said.

"She (King) and the PS Juliana Boodram interviewed me, they looked at my CV and everything and appeared comfortable to hire me for the position of project director.I was given a contract as far as I was concerned. It was signed by the company secretary (Richard Freeman) and myself and that is a legal document," he said.

He said he was not aware of whether procedure was followed in his employment however as far as he was concerned, he has a legal contract.

"I worked there for six months upgrading all the work activities in terms of managing the projects and moving them forward," he said.

Asked which projects, Crichlow said there were many including the Government Campus, the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA, North and South), the Red House, Stollmeyer's Castle, new port facilities, police stations, fire stations and more.

"I was given no reason why I was terminated. I am seeking legal advice," said Crichlow.
