By Carolyn Kissoon

A Cunupia man was pronounced dead after he was pulled from the waters off Galeota Point, Mayaro, on Monday.

Peter Rampersad, 50, was bathing with friends at the beach when he got into difficulty around 4.15 p.m.

Police said Rampersad went to the beach with a group of friends. He called out for help and his friends dived in to assist.

Investigators said Rampersad was dragged out of the water and placed on the shore.

His friends performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but Rampersad was not responding.

Rampersad, of Chin Chin Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer.

His body was removed to the San Fernando mortuary, where an autopsy will be performed this morning.

PC Byron, of Mayaro Police Station, is continuing investigations.
