THE Minister of Gender, Youth and Child Development, Clifton De Coteau, has been taken to hospital, after falling ill on Wednesday.
De Coteau's medical issue was confirmed today by Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal, who said “ he was taken to Surgimed Medical Centre in San Fernando. They are doing some tests on him and he is there resting at the moment".
Moonilal said “I spoke to him yesterday and he was in good spirits and energised. We wish him all the best. He is an integral part of our team and we wish him a speedy recovery. All his parliamentary and cabinet colleagues are with him side by side, and we intend later in the evening to visit him.”
Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan told the Express this afternoon "He is resting comfortable. He has a cerebellar bleed that is affecting his balance. This should resolve in a few days or weeks".
De Coteau was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital on Thursday afternoon for a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), before being returned to the private hospital.
According to a source close to De Coteau "At around 6.30 p.m, he began feeling dizzy. His driver picked him up at his home in Princes Town".
De Coteau is expected to be away from work for an extended period, the Express was told.
De Coteau, the Member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland, was appointed to the Ministry earlier this month during a Cabinet reshuffle.
He previously held the post of Minister of National Diversity and Social Integration.
