ToolsDefence Force accident: Fuad praises medical teamsHEALTH Minister Dr Fuad Khan has lauded the "enthusiasm" and "dedication" exhibited by medical personnel from public health facilities who responded to the health care needs of the 23 people injured when an army vehicle overturned in Tobago earlier this month. Around 6.45 p.m. on September 2, a military vehicle carrying members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force rugby team was involved in an accident in Charlotteville, Tobago. Twenty-three people—17 soldiers, two sailors and four civilians—were injured in the accident. Lance Corporal Azrion Bodie, 27, who was considered to be the most critical of those injured in the crash, was released from the West Shore Medical private hospital, Cocorite, on Wednesday. Three of the injured were still warded at public health facilities, Civil Military Affairs Officer Major Al Alexander told the Express on Thursday. Lance Corporal Young, the only member of the Defence Force still warded, is at the Port of Spain General Hospital, Alexander said. Young was scheduled to undergo a skin graft. Andell Francis, who was considered the second most critical of those injured, was also at the Port of Spain hospital, while Ian Brown was at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope. Francis and Brown are civilians. In a news release, Khan thanked the medical personnel at the public health facilities for "rising to the occasion when needed". The "doctors, nurses, hospital attendants and other auxiliary staff at the Tobago Regional Health Authority, the North West Regional Health Authority and the North Central Regional Health Authority" were thanked by Khan. "The high-quality health care, team work, caring attitude and commitment of these medical personnel exemplify the type of service that the Ministry of Health envisions for Trinidad and Tobago in providing first-class health care for the people," Khan stated. "The timely response of all involved parties circumvented a major tragedy when several lives were saved. "The staff displayed the utmost competency and dedication to their duty to save and preserve lives." |
