PEOPLE’S National Movement (PNM) candidate for St Joseph, former senator Terrence Deyalsingh, was yesterday disappointed with what he called a “bacchanalian” scene at the Elections and Boundaries Commission’s (EBC) office in Aranjuez.
Deyalsingh, whose position as a senator was revoked to facilitate his candidacy for the November 4 by-election, was one of five candidates to file their nomination papers yesterday.
The Aranjuez Main Road environs was transformed into a moving rally as hordes of supporters caused hours of traffic, in addition to attempts to outdo each other with their music trucks.
Speaking after filing, Deyalsingh he would have expected a more sombre approach to the day.
“I am so happy, I am so elated to get down to doing the groundwork,” he said.
“The only thing I don’t like is the bacchanalian atmosphere, I would have thought today would a solemn day.”
Deyalsingh said he will be focused on his own work and not the ‘show’ being put on by his competitors.
