...South commuters stuck in traffic for hours

Traffic piled up along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway for several hours yesterday morning after a red-band maxi-taxi skidded and ran off the roadway, leaving four people injured and one man hospitalised.

Police reports said at about 9 a.m., the maxi-taxi, which was driven by a La Horquetta man, was proceeding south along the highway when upon reaching the vicinity of Edinburgh 500, the vehicle skidded on the wet surface and ran off the roadway, into the median.

The police and emergency health services were notified, and a party of offi-

cers from the Chaguanas Police Station and the Central Division, including WPC Carrington and PC Rock, responded.

The driver and four other people were injured in the incident and had to be taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility for treatment.

The driver complained of chest pains

and was eventually transferred to the

Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, for treatment while the four others were discharged.

At time, the maxi-taxi was said to be transporting 18 passengers to La Vega, Gran Couva, to take part in a sports and family day.

Investigations are continuing.
