Driver killed, 3 injured in crash

By Susan Mohammed

A 20-YEAR-OLD construction labourer died on Sunday night when his car crashed and burned on Mosquito Creek, La Romaine.

Ameer Mohammed, of Mount Stewart Village, Princes Town, succumbed to his injuries at the San Fernando General Hospital.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. when Mohammed was driving a Nissan B-13 Sentra with passengers Peter Eccles, 49, of Thompson Gardens, Tarouba, and Winston Julien, 37, of Moonan Avenue, Princes Town.

Police said Mohammed was headed west along the South Trunk Road when his vehicle was struck by a Nissan Almera driven by Melissa Bernard, of Raja Boulevard, Bay View, La Romaine.

Bernard told police she swerved to her right to avoid collision with another vehicle but instead crashed head-on into Mohammed's car.

Mohammed, Eccles, Julien and Bernard were taken to hospital by Emergency Health Services ambulance.

Mohammed's mother, Sylvia Mohammed, said that around 8 p.m, he left the house with her car to go to the parlour to purchase a soft drink.

Acting Cpl Rampersad of San Fernando Police Station is investigating.
