WOULD-BE groom Umar Mohammed was laid to rest on Thursday.

Mohammed drowned in waters off Mayaro on Sunday and his body washed ashore on Tuesday, the very day he was to take his marriage vows.

A funeral service was held for Mohammed, 34, an information technology student, at the Munroe Road Masjid in Cunupia.

The body was interred at Munroe Road Public Cemetery.

Mohammed had gone to the beach on Sunday with his fiancee, Abigail Agard, and he told her he was going for a swim. She described the water as “rough”.

After several minutes, he vanished.

Mohammed was UK-born, but lived in his grandmother’s house in Ganagaram Branch Trace, Torrib Trace, New Grant. His parents and five siblings reside in London, England.

Zorina Mohammed said her nephew was looking forward to exchanging his marriage vows with Agard, and had told his family he loved her very much.

Agard said Mohammed was “kind and loyal” to her, and minutes before he disappeared they spoke of their impending marriage, honeymoon in Tobago and their future together.
