ToolsEl Socorro man killed in bar robberyAN electrician was shot and killed during a bar robbery on Saturday night. Dead is 30-year-old Shannol Mahabir, from Mohammed Trace in El Socorro. According to police reports, Mahabir and two friends were liming at Ornella and Radha's bar in San Juan, when two masked gunmen walked in around 9.30 p.m. The gunmen announced a hold-up. The incident took place 30 minutes before the bar's scheduled closing time. The bar is located along Don Miguel Road in San Juan, just off Churchill-Roosevelt Highway. During the melee, Mahabir and one of his friends, Mukesh Rampharite, were shot by the bandits. Mahabir was shot in the chest, while Rampharite sustained wounds to his lip. The bandits fled the scene. Mahabir and Rampharite were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope. Mahabir was listed as dead on arrival. Several attempts to contact bar owner Ornella Narine proved unsuccessful yesterday. Homicide detectives are continuing investigations. —Joel Julien |
