A man released from prison two weeks ago was found shot dead in his home at Rambert Village near San Fernando yesterday.

Roopchand Harripersad, 41, of De Verteuil Street, had been shot once in the back of the head, with the bullet exiting through an eye.

His body was discovered around 8 a.m. in a shack in which he lived about 50 metres from the family’s home.

Detectives are uncertain of the motive for the killing. He was last seen Sunday night when he went to a shop in the area to purchase bread.

Harripersad’s, mother Dolly Harripersad, 69, said a man came to her house and told her that something was wrong.

“He told me he went to the house to take him to a work, but that fly sitting on the boy and he not getting up. I told him to call the ambulance. He asked me to come and see what happened, but I didn’t go,” said the mother. She said her son had been imprisoned for stealing, and she had stopped talking to him years ago because he had stolen from her.

His murder has been recorded as number 187 for the year compared with 157 for the same period last year.
