‘Express’ clears the air

Posts on Facebook have been circulating that the Express is responsible for two online articles, one on Wednesday alluding to a State of Emergency being announced by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar while the other on Thursday night states she will be performing at this year’s Soca Monarch final.

We wish to state that those articles do not exist.

The URL to the 2011 state of emergency article was copied and pasted on the Facebook post which made it seem that the story was current while the Express URL was also used for the post on a false story that the PM was performing at the Soca Monarch final.

The article related to the State of Emergency dates to August 22, 2011, when the Express reported that  Persad-Bissessar had called a limited State of Emergency in crime hot spots. The Express has also not published an article related to any Soca Monarch performance by Persad-Bissessar.

The Facebook posts related to the “articles” did not originate from the Trinidad Express Facebook account or any other account, but was created by Facebook users.

The Express considers this a misuse of its brand name which is injurious to its reputation.

In this light, we wish to set the record straight and extend our deepest apologies for any distress caused by the false posts.
