AN Express report on the disappearance of a girl last week on her 13th birthday was seen by a reader who recognised the teenager and made a call to Crime Stoppers that led to her recovery by police officers on Monday.
Jenelle Griffith was back home with her family yesterday after spending the day undergoing medical tests.
Griffith’s mother, Nicole Cyrus, told the Express a “good civilian” who knew where the Form Two pupil was staying called Crime Stoppers and reported the girl’s whereabouts.
Cyrus said the girl was questioned by Chaguanas police before being examined at the Couva Health Facility and San Fernando General Hospital.
Cyrus said her daughter did not appear remorseful when they were reunited, but as her mother, she felt relieved and happy to know her child was alive.
She said the girl was staying with an aunt who will provide extensive counselling.
Griffith, whose family learned she had a secret Facebook account, left her Iere Village, Princes Town, home on August 13 to purchase stationery items for school and never returned.
She was found in Chaguanas.
