‘Failure of national security’

Rowley questions Kamla’s presence

The total power blackout which occurred in the early hours of Good Friday is another failure of the country’s national security system, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley has said.
“In this matter, the Prime Minister who moments before declared herself to be too ill and was ordered to bed by her doctors so that she will not have to answer pertinent questions on current embarrassing issues, had she carried out her normal schedule in relation to Baptist Liberation, Easter and Phagwa celebrations was suddenly in good enough health to attempt to extract political points from this total blackout by turning up in full regalia at the Penal Power Station ostensibly to witness the restart of the power plant there,” he said in a statement on Friday.
“It is clear that the Prime Minister’s announcement of her inability to attend Cabinet on Thursday and statements about her being ordered away from festivities of the weekend are clearly her way of not exposing herself to the local media to answer questions about her knowledge and interest in the scandal surrounding the Minister of National Security and other similar issues.”
