Falling traffic light kills man along bus route

A man was killed in an accident on Monday when an out-of-control car slammed into a traffic light pole which then fell over and killed him.
The incident occurred on Monday at 11.30 a.m. at Dinsley Junction, Arouca along the Priority Bus Route.
Relatives of the victim, Basdeo Batoon, 69, said he was standing on the South side of the bus route waiting to cross with his bicycle when an accident took place near him.
Police said when one car slammed into another, the struck vehicle spun out of control and ran into the traffic light near where Batoon stood.
The traffic light then fell on Batoon.
The father of two sons and one daughter was rushed to the Arima District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Batoon lived at Best Street off the Dinsley Main Road.
The road fatality figure stood at six up to last night.
Arouca Police are continuing investigations.
