Father charged with raping daughter, 8

...Mother ‘failed to report crime’

A MAN appeared in Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with raping his eight-year-old daughter.

His wife appeared in the same court charged with failing to report the alleged crimes. The two were denied bail. The charges were read to the 31-year-old woman and her 38-year-old husband before Magistrate Lisa Scotland.

The acts of incest allegedly occurred at their home in Caroni.

Police prosecutor Sgt Shiva Boodoo objected to the pair being placed on bail.

He said they both were charged last December and taken before another Chaguanas court for neglecting their five children, the youngest being only months old.

Scotland was told that the children were being cared for at different children’s homes.

It was while at the home that the couple’s eldest child told members of staff of the alleged abuse.

The parents were arrested last Monday. On Wednesday, they were remanded in prison custody and ordered to return to court on April 16.
