Faulty fridge closes down Forensics

MALFUNCTIONING equipment at Forensic Science Centre in St James resulted in the closure of the centre for two days, putting on hold several autopsies and the sending home of staff due to unsafe air quality.
In a release issued yesterday by the Ministry of Justice, on Monday, staff detected one of the refrigerated systems used to store bodies had malfunctioned.
Yesterday, the centre was back in operation after the equipment was repaired.
The release stated management took immediate steps to address the situation by contacting the contracted service provider.
Repairs, however, could not have been completed on Monday and had to be continued on Tuesday.
“Arising from this incident, corpses were moved to other facilities for temporary storage. Staff members were allowed to leave the centre until the repairs were effected and air quality returned to normal,” the release stated.
