The flooring has been changed in parts of the 45-year-old San Fernando Magistrates’ Court, after an estate constable’s foot went through the wooden floor two weeks ago.
The female constable suffered nerve damage and a torn ligament and remains with fluid in her knee and no feelings in the toes of her left foot following the incident.
Around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, the woman was making a routine check at the public gallery of the First Court, when her left foot went through the wooden flooring. She was taken by ambulance to San Fernando General Hospital and left the institution with a bandaged left knee.
The flooring at both the First and Second courts was changed last week.
Before this was done, caution tape cordoned off the area where the incident occurred and a sign was posted warning members of the public about using the space. —Nikita Braxton-Benjamin
