Foreigner on 4 kg cocaine charge

A TWENTY-eight-year-old Latvian national will appear before an Arima magistrate today charged with attempting to traffic four kilogrammes of cocaine.

The woman was arrested around 4 p.m. on Sunday at Piarco International Airport by officers of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB), just as she was about to board Caribbean Airlines flight, BW 2158, to Gatwick, London.

Police said they decided to thoroughly check the suspect when she "began acting suspiciously" while in the in-transit area of the airport.

The officers allegedly found four kilogrammes "Colombian pure" high-grade cocaine in a gutted-out camera charger.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $1.4 million.
