Forensics director summoned to court in gun case

...to give report on exhibit at centre

By Nikita Braxton-Benjamin

THE director of the Forensic Science Centre (FSC) in St James has been summoned to court with information concerning the gun which two men were charged with having in their possession.

Sherwin Waldron and Sheldon John are before the San Fernando Second Court for allegedly having possession of a firearm in Tarodale on September 18, 2012.

On Monday, Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran was told by the prosecution the exhibit was at the centre.

Ramsaran issued the summons for the head of the centre to produce a report with regard to the item.

“If the person at the FSC brings the report, I can guarantee an early trial date,” he said.

The magistrate said if the report is not brought, an explanation will have to be given to the court.

And if the director fails to show up in court, Ramsaran said a warrant will be issued for her arrest.

Arlette Lewis is the director at the Forensic Science Centre.

Waldron told the court he is a diet orderly at the prison and claimed he was slashed on his face while doing this duty. He alleged he was not receiving treatment at the prison as needed.

The father of three asked for a reduction in his $300,000 bail and Ramsaran placed him on $200,000 bail.

Waldron and John, who were charged by Constable Rodriguez, will return to court on February 2.
