Former senior magistrate dies

Hollick Edward Harnarayan, a former senior magistrate died on Thursday morning after a short illness at the age of 95.

Harnarayan, a barrister at law, was called to the bar at Grays Inn, London  in 1949. He served as a magistrate in several parts of Trinidad and was known for his insistence of a high level of discipline while he served as a magistrate.

He was also a member of the Agricultural Tribunal and the Rent Assessment Board and functioned in an advisory capacity to several NGO's in south Trinidad. He was the author of a book entitled " Welcome to Small Claims Court". He was the recipient of several local and foreign awards for his contribution to the legal profession.

His funeral will take place today at the Susamachar Presbyterian Church, San Fernando and a cremation service later at Belgroves Funeral Home.
