Fraud suspect nabbed in Couva

By Susan Mohammed

A 27-year-old man arrested by police Monday night, in connection with fraudulent activity, is the same man being investigated over reports that he attempted to extort money from a Government official.

Police said the man was detained in Couva by officers of the Couva CID following investigation by detectives of the Fraud Squad Unit in Port of Spain.

The suspect was arrested in an apartment at Grant Street Extension at around 8 p.m., following a tip-off to police regarding his location.

He was arrested in connection with claims he allegedly obtained thousands of dollars under false pretences from several persons.

Police said that in April, the suspect told police that a Government official made sexual advances to him when he visited his home in north Trinidad last year.

The report was made at a police station some six weeks ago, claiming that the incidents occurred in January and October last year.

In the report, the man claimed that the Government official touched and bit his nipples at his (the official’s) home.

The suspect was expected to be interrogated by Fraud Squad officers yesterday.
