A BEETHAM Gardens gang leader is currently assisting detectives in their investigations into a fatal multi-million heist involving a security van two Wednesdays ago.
The 31-year-old gang leader appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate earlier this year charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He was out on bail for that offence.
The gang leader was detained by detectives yesterday for questioning in relation to the multi-million dollar robbery of Sentinel Security Services van in which veteran officer Bert Clarke was shot dead.
Detectives believe the gang leader has vital information that can help them crack the case.
On November 27, a Sentinel Security Services van was robbed of cash destined to Tobago for all the country’s major commercial banks.
Veteran Sentinel Security guard, Asst Estate Supt Bert Clarke, 59, was murdered in the robbery.
The driver who survived the robbery was questioned by detectives.
Investigators have hailed the “sophisticated nature” and “clinical planning” of the heist.
Clarke was laid to rest on Monday at the D’Abadie Public Cemetery.
Investigations are continuing.
