By Sue-Ann Wayow

POLICE, the Coast Guard and fishermen were up to late yesterday searching for a little girl who went missing while at a beach in Moruga.

Police reports are that Gabriela Marcano, six, went missing while playing in the water at Grand Chemin Beach around 3.20 p.m. She was with her parents, Kelly Marcano and Shawn Matthews.

Police said when the parents came out of the water, they realised the child was not with them and began searching for her.

Gabriela lives at Lady Bird Crescent in Pleasantville.

She is a first year pupil of Anstey Memorial Girls' Primary School.

The Coast Guard's public relations officer, Lt Commander Kirk Jean-Baptiste, said yesterday officials from the National Security Operations Centre (NSOC) were conducting searches using helicopters.

He said if the child was not found by yesterday evening, searches would begin this morning by the Air Guard and Coast Guard divers would have to do dives.

Baptiste said searches could only be conducted before nightfall.
