A GONZALES man was killed and two female friends of his were injured when a gunman attacked the group near a gas station in Belmont on Sunday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 8.30 p.m.
The male victim, 26-year-old Sherwyn Wint, and the two women, Tameka Marcano and another unnamed female, were standing at Boissiere Lane opposite the gas station when a gunman approached them and opened fire.
Wint, who lived at Samuel Lane in Belmont, was hit three times to his chest, while Marcano was shot in her right arm and the other woman was grazed on one of her legs. Residents who heard the gunshots called the police and a team of officers from Belmont Police Station arrived and took all three victims to Port of Spain General Hospital, where Wint was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Express met with Wint’s relatives yesterday when they went to witness the post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park.
Stacey Kelly, Wint’s sister, said she did not know why someone wanted her brother dead.
She said it was probably a case of mistaken identity and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Kelly said her brother recently began working at Johnnie Q Sound Company and he was a very nice person.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations. —GG
