Guard found dead with gunshot wound

A 54-YEAR-old Point Fortin security guard was discovered dead with a gunshot wound at his workplace on Sunday night.

Winfred Gabriel, of Techier Village, an employee of Commercial Protective Services Limited, was found by his employer with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police recovered a firearm next to the body.

Detectives suspect that Gabriel's loaded firearm accidentally discharged and he was struck.

According to a report, Gabriel was on duty at Federation Park, St Clair, Port of Spain when a resident heard an explosion. The resident contacted the owner of the security company, who went to check on the area, and found Gabriel motionless on the ground of the guard booth.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on Gabriel's body at the Forensic Science Centre today.
