A SECURITY GUARD was yesterday jailed for 12 months  for kissing and committing an act of serious indecency on a 13-year-old whom he lured into the basement of a clothing store.

Deopersad Algoo, 38, of New Grant yesterday pleaded guilty to charge of indecent assault before Princes Town senior magistrate Debra Quintyne.

At around midday last Monday, the girl went to the clothing store to visit a relative and was assaulted in the basement of the establishment.

Algoo was charged by Constable Flemming.

Police prosecutor Sgt Winston Hajaree presented a medical to the court on the girl’s behalf.

Defence attorney Petronilla Basdeo mitigated on Algoo’s behalf saying that he was divorced and the father of one.

Algoo also had no previous or pending matters before the court.

He was sent to prison for a year with hard labour.
