Guard killed in hold-up at home

An El Socorro family is in mourning after a 37-year-old security guard was killed following a robbery at his home on Sunday afternoon.

Police reported that at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, Hasely Baptiste was at his home along El Socorro Main Road when two men forced their way inside.

The men announced a robbery and demanded that Baptiste surrender his gold chain and gold wristband.

The security officer refused and a struggle ensued.

During the confrontation one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot Baptiste twice about his body.

He fell to the ground and the two assailants relieved him of his jewelry before fleeing the scene.

A female relative, who was in another room during the altercation, came outside upon hearing the commotion and found Baptiste lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

She notified the police as well as the emergency health services and the injured man was rushed to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex at Mt Hope, but he succumbed to his injuries at about 5.15 p.m.
