Guard shot dead: friend in hospital
Ambushed by gunmen on their way home after late-night party...
A SECURITY guard was shot and killed and his friend injured early yesterday when they were attacked while returning to their Laventille homes after attending a party in East Trinidad.
Police said the victim, Nikoma Bolton Samuel, 26, and friend Ricardo Jones, 28, had disembarked a maxi-taxi that stopped along the Priority Bus Route, near the Excel School in Beetham Gardens, around 3.30 a.m.
As both men made their way towards the Eastern Main Road to their homes in Eastern Quarry, Laventille, they were accosted by four gunmen who are believed to have come from Beetham Gardens.
The gunmen opened fire on the two, hitting Samuel several times in the chest and abdomen.
Jones was shot in the left leg.
Both men ran towards a nearby panyard where Samuel slumped to the ground and died.
Jones was able to seek help and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he remained in stable condition last night.
Samuel was a guard employed with Amalgamated Security Services Ltd and worked at the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), Richmond Street, Port of Spain, branch.
He was described as a kind, helpful, God-fearing and honest individual, employees at the security company said.
The murder toll stood at 233 up to last night.
The murder toll last year at the same time was 248.
