POLICE raided a mosque in Rio Claro on Friday evening and found hidden in the building a Beretta pistol and 100 rounds of ammunition.
The discovery was made by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) after they received information that certain members of the mosque were hiding arms and ammunition in the building.
However, despite the discovery no one was arrested in connection with the find.
Police said around 4 p.m., they went to the Masjid Un Noor Mosque located at Union Village and carried out a search.
During the search, officers said they came upon a room at the back of the building with contained some galvanised iron sheets. Upon removing the sheets of galvanise, the officers said they found the gun and nine millimetre ammunition hidden below. At the time of the seizure, no members of the mosque were in the building, said police.
The exercise was headed by Insp Roger Alexander and included Cpl Sunil Bharath and PC Quashie.
