Gunman opens fire in club killing 1

Second patron critical after being shot in the head

A MAN was shot and killed while at a bar in Couva while another victim is fighting for his life at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Wayne Haywood, 36, of McBean, Couva, died at the club after a lone gunman entered the building and opened fire yesterday morning.

Kevon Edwards, 27, of Perseverance, Couva, was shot in the head and is in critical condition at the Intensive Care unit (ICU) of the hospital.

It was around 4.10 a.m., police said, the gunman entered the

club at Southern Main Road, Couva, and fired a shot. He then opened fire on patrons.

The man then escaped from the scene.

Officers are searching for the gunman.

It was four months ago, Dillon Brown was shot outside the same bar while awaiting transport.

Brown, 22, of California, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

In that incident, police said there was an altercation inside the Couva club and three patrons were stabbed.

One of the men involved in the fight returned in a car with other men and began shooting.

The car the gunman had occupied was later found by police, burnt in Roystonia, Couva.

Brown’s father had said his son aspired to become a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.

He insisted his son was an innocent bystander who would not have been involved in the altercation at the bar.
