Gunman shot dead in Laventille

A NELSON STREET, Port of Spain, man—described by the police as a well-known gunman—was shot dead yesterday afternoon in Dan Kelly Village, off Picton Road, Laventille.

The victim, Dorian Weekes, aged 22, who was also known as "Tiger", was standing in the area at 1.45 p.m., when he was approached by a gunman who opened fire at him at close range.

Police said Weekes's head was almost blown off as a result of the multiple gunshots.

When residents found him, he was lying dead in the yard of one of the area's residents.

His body was later removed to the Port of Spain Mortuary after being viewed by a district medical officer.

Police said Weekes was wanted for a number of recent shootings in the area.

The murder toll stood at 39 last night, according to an Express tally. —Gyasi Gonzales
