The Public Health Department of the San Fernando City Corporation yesterday advised that Hakka Express, a fast food outlet at Gulf City Mall, La Romaine, was not ordered closed, as initially reported.
The outlet, located in the mall’s food court, was asked to service a kitchen hood only.
San Fernando Mayor Dr Navi Muradali, along with a team of public health officers, visited the food court on August 7.
Two establishments were ordered closed because of filthy kitchens, improper storage of cooked food and unsanitary conditions.
The owners were advised to clean their kitchens and replace unsanitary utensils.
Initial reports indicated that Hakka Express was among the food outlets shut down.
The corporation’s public health departments stated yesterday: “The Department wishes to express an apology to the owners and management of Hakka Express for any inconvenience caused.”
The corporation’s public health inspectors have been visiting food establishments throughout the city to crack down on unhealthy practices.
