Hassanali: Preventative systems not effective

Although Petrotrin had preventative maintenance systems in place, some have not been effective in some cases, Hassanali admitted.

He said several recommendations from such reports were being implemented but others were not, hence the need for the asset management committee.

Hassanali said: “We have to address these things in order of priority. Sometimes, as indeed happens with the bund wall, our priorities may be wrong because the risks are concealed. We did not know, for example, that the bund wall was going to fail. We didn’t know that bund wall was improperly constructed in the year 2000,

but that is a fact and it has happened.”
