EIGHT pupils of a school have reported to police they were molested by a CEPEP (Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme) worker near the school’s compound on Monday.
The pupils, seven and eight years old, were said to have been attacked by the man on a recreation ground during the children’s lunch hour.
Police yesterday detained a suspect—a 34-year-old man of Begorat Hill, Mayaro—who is expected to be placed on identification parades this week.
According to police, around noon the suspect was among a group of his co-workers cutting grass on the grounds next-door to the school.
Police said the children reported the suspect allegedly walked by them and touched their private parts.
The children reported the incident to one of their teachers and the suspect ran away.
Yesterday morning, police arrested the suspect in the same area when he returned to work.
Police said they are extracting footage from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area where the incident occurred.
The Express was told officials of Student Support Services offered counselling to the pupils.
The suspect is facing several counts of the offence of indecent assault.
