Highway crash: husband dies one day after wife

SIPARIA PENSIONER Rajkumar Ramnarine succumbed on Thursday to his injuries suffered in a car crash that also claimed the life of his wife.

Ramnarine, 76, of Edwards Road, died at hospital on Thursday evening, a day after his wife, Cynthia, 69, died while undergoing surgery.

The couple were seated in the back seat of a car driven by their son, Krishan, who was taking his mother to Piarco International Airport to board a flight to Canada.

Krishan Ramanarine, 47, said he was driving on the right lane of the north-bound lane of Uriah Butler Highway when, in the vicinity of the Divali Nagar site, another car swerved into his path.

He said he crashed into the vehicle and his car spun several times before colliding with a light pole.

Cynthia Ramnarine died at Chaguanas Health Facility two hours after the crash. Her husband was warded at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he subsequently died.
