Western Division police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the rape of a 54-year-old woman from Diego Martin, which occurred in St James yesterday morning.
The incident took place at about 1 a.m., at the corner of Mucurapo Road and Mucurapo Link Road, St James.
The woman told police she was walking towards the Western Main Road to flag down a taxi. However, she observed a man who she thought was homeless.
She told police the individual was about six-feet tall, covered in dirt and filth, had short, dark, unkempt hair, and a strong odour.
The woman attempted to avoid the man and began to walk faster.
However, upon reaching near the gas station on Mucurapo Road, she felt a sharp object pressed against her back.
The victim said she was instructed by her attacker to go behind the gas station. Her attacker then robbed her of a quantity of jewelry, worth more than $4,000, before he sexually assaulted her.
He left the woman and escaped on foot.
The woman made her way to the St James Police Station where she made a report.
She was then transferred to the St James Medical Complex where she was medically examined.
PC Kendell Bernard is continuing investigations.
