A HOMELESS man became the latest murder victim after he was shot on Monday night and died several hours later at hospital.
Up to yesterday evening, police were unable to positively identity the victim, with him only being known as "Yankee".
His death has taken the murder toll for the year so far to 48, according to an Express tally..
Homicide detectives said around 10 p.m. on Monday, revellers on their way home after participating in the Carnival celebrations heard the sound of gunfire before coming upon the man's body along Lopinot Road, Arouca.
Investigators said he was shot several times about the upper body.
He was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope where he succumbed to his injuries around 1 a.m. yesterday.
Police said the man, who was of African descent, appeared to be around 45 years old and was clad in a blue three-quarter jeans and white vest.
He previously lived along the streets of Port of Spain but recently moved into the Arouca area, said investigators.
His killing was believed to have taken place following an altercation he had with another man moments before he was shot.
Homicide detectives are continuing investigations into the incident.
