A manhunt is on for the suspects involved in the murder of 27-year-old Adrian Alfred of Bethel, Tobago.

Alfred was found with gunshots to the body lying in a drain along Cocrico Avenue in Buccoo shortly before 4 a.m. yesterday.

Alfred, a steel bender employed with the Works Division, was killed following a gambling incident involving several men at Mt St George.

Jamoke Duncan, also of Bethel, who was also involved in the incident, remains at Scarborough General Hospital recovering from gunshot wounds he sustained to the buttocks. He is under police guard in a stable condition.

Avalon Ralph, girlfriend of the dead man, said she spoke with Alfred only moments before he died.

"He told me he going and get a sandwich for me, and since then I have been trying to call him without success, only to get this call this morning. He was no saint but he was a darling," Ralph said.

According to police reports, both men were followed from Mt St George by two men in a car. They were chased and shots were fired.

Residents later heard gunshots in the Buccoo area shortly before 4 a.m. When the smoke cleared Alfred was dead, while Duncan was injured. Both men are known to police and were arrested in the past, charged in connection with a robbery at Runnemede Credit Union, where large sums of cash were taken. The matter was later dismissed before the Scarborough Magistrates' Courts.

Old Grange police and Scarborough Homicide officers are continuing investigations into the matter.
