Independent Liberal Party (ILP) leader, Jack Warner and candidate for the St Joseph seat, Om Lalla braved the rains in Aranjuez during a walkabout yesterday.
ILP member, Inshan Ishmael asked for a moment of silence before the walkabout and while eyes were closed rain began to fall. While some people looked for shelter, Ishmael said, “Don’t worry about the rain, green does grow better with rain on it.”
Fielding questions from the media about incidents of violence that allegedly took place on Wednesday, Warner said, “I can’t talk about what I don’t know. I have read there was violence in other areas but we have none and we don’t intend to have any either.”
He noted that two persons from the area yesterday seem displeased during the walkabout, however, he said, people were entitled to their opinion.
When asked whether or not his supporters were from the St Joseph area, Warner said, “The people here are all members of the ILP. Some of them are here to support the candidate, Mr Lalla and some of them are from the St Joseph area.”
Proceeding along the Aranjuez Main Road and then turning unto Satar Street, residents in the area came out to greet Warner and Lalla.
Despite the rain, ILP supporters continued to hand out flyers and T-shirts.
One resident of the area, Myra Mohammed, has lived in the area for the past 65 years and felt that Lalla would make a good candidate. Another resident of the area who wanted to remain anonymous said, “There are a lot strong candidates going up for the St Joseph seat but Lalla is a good candidate and he could win.”
As the November 4 by-election draws closer, Lalla shared his thoughts, and said, “I am going in very positive. It is very exciting and the election is attracting a lot of attention and we looking forward to a positive result. Feedback has been exceptional so far and a lot of positive responses.”
