IRO president: Harrypersad Maharaj ToolsIRO head: An asset to the communityThe Inter Religious Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago has sent greetings to the Catholic Church on the election of Pope Francis. "The Catholic Church has been one of the founding members of the IRO and continues to make significant contribution to the nation," IRO president Harrypersad Maharaj said in a statement yesterday. "Pope Francis I being a very simple and humble individual will certainly be an asset to the Catholic community across the world. Reading of his profile and his stand for social justice and the poor; him being elected at this time, I would rather say is very timely. He will certainly win the hearts of the majority." With his simplicity and down-to-earth attitude, he will surely lend a ray of hope to the desperate and needy and to the world at large and serve as a role model to most, Maharaj said. "The IRO wishes him every success, health and strength, and God's blessings in all his endeavours," he added. |
