ToolsImbert: Immediate work needed in Saddle Road, Maraval to prevent further damageImmediate work is needed on Saddle Road, Maraval, to prevent it from collapsing, says Diego North East MP Colm Imbert. There was a landslip on Saddle Road in the vicinity of Fairways yesterday, causing miles of traffic until the dirt and debris were removed. Speaking to TV6 News last night, Imbert said the hill where the landslip occurred has been unstable since last year. He said the infrastructure in Maraval was seriously damaged during the torrential rains in November 2011 and last month and the landslip was "an accident waiting to happen because the slope had already been de-stabilised by the erosion caused by flooding a year ago". Imbert said the heavy downpour yesterday was the "last straw" and although no houses are under threat at the moment, the road itself can collapse. "No houses are threatened at this time but the road will certainly collapse. The access road to get up to the hill where the houses are will certainly collapse. If we have another heavy shower of rain," he said. |
