It's Official - President-elect Anthony T.A Carmona

It's official.

Former Justice Anthony Carmona was this afternoon elected to be the next President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The declaration was made House Speaker Wade Mark at a meeting of the Electoral College, at the Parliament Chamber, International Waterfront, Port-of-Spain.

President-elect Carmona, the only nominee for the position, will assume the position March 18, when he is inaugurated at Knowsley Building, Queens Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain.

Outgoing President George Maxwell Richards left the country yesterday on vacation. As a result, Senate President Timothy Hamel-Smith will act as President during the absence.
