JEALOUSY is believed to be the reason behind the stabbing death of a Tobago man who was killed in St James on Saturday night.
Assin Winn, 28, of Plymouth, Tobago, was stabbed in the eye and chest by a man known to him, at Dundonald Hill, around 7 p.m. police said.
Winn's killing has pushed the country's murder toll for the year to 290 according to an Express tally.
According to investigators, Winn had gone to the area to visit his girlfriend. It was while they were both walking along the roadway that the man, the woman's former boyfriend, approached the couple before a struggle ensued between the two men.
"He (Winn) was walking down the road with the girl and her former boyfriend saw that and maybe he thought that was a disrespect," a senior police officer told the Express.
It was during the fight that the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Winn, before escaping on foot, said police.
Investigators said residents in the area rushed the injured man to St James District Hospital, where he died a short while later.
However, before taking his last breath, police said Winn revealed the identity of his killer.
Investigators said with the information they had received, they were confident that an arrest would be made soon.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) are continuing enquiries.
